Upon Arrival you will be taken to our Home and a light refreshment will be provided. You will hear the story of Saint Francis. Then a walking tour of the Medieval City. First, to The Cathedral San Rufino. Then to Santa Chiara, where there are relics and the remains of the Saint. On to the Home of Saint Francis. After a short walk to the Main Square where you can have lunch. After Lunch a visit to the Roman Temple Minerva. Then to San Francisco Basilica, with its Frescoes and Museum. Time permitting there are many other smaller Churches and of course the "La Rocca:, Assisi Castle Fortress for you to explore on your own.
Assisi is built on the side of Mount Subasio, so streets are narrow and sometimes steep. Good walking shoes are recommended. Our walking visits include refreshments at our home. The tour of the Basilica of Saint Francis will be given by an Italian guide for groups of 10 or more. In the case of small groups by Audio guide. Walking visits last between 4-6 hours.
As walking is a good way to get around it is not the best way to see all of the major venues. Most of the Major places to visit are quite far apart. Our Vehicular assisited visits combine walking within the Historic walls and utilizing vehicles to see the other sites of Assisi.
Again, your visit will include a refreshment in our home. We will visit the major sites within the city as stated in our Day Walking visit. Then upon completion of our visit to the Basilica and Tomb of Saint Francis we will be picked up by by private vehicle and taken to the Hermitage. This is a very Holy place. Francis would visit to pray and contemplate his life with Christ. It is an active monastery, however very remote. Then after a short visit we will go to San Damiano. San Damiano is the place where Christ from the Cross asked Francis to "Rebuild my Church" It later became the home of the "Poor Clairs". It is the place where Clair died. After a short visit to Rivotorto we then proceed to Santa Maria Degli Angeli, The Grand Church built over the small chapel ("Porziuncola"). This is the little church in the valley that Francis loved so much. It is also the place where Francis died and was taken to heaven.
Again Shoes are important however the assisted Vehicles tour allows decreased walking. A Vehicle assisted walking visits lasts approximately 6-8 hours.
Q: How long is the average Visit?
A: Walking Day visits last approximately 4-6 hours and Vehicular assisted visits last approximately 7-8 hours. Of course times are approximate and your visit can be adjusted to your time schedule.
Q: What is the best way to get to Assisi?
A: While we can pick you up in Rome or Florence for an additional cost, the best way is to travel from any major city by Train or bus. You may also wish to fly into Perugia, this airport is within 15 minutes of Assisi. If you wish for us to pick you up at the train - bus depot or airport, there is also an additional small fee, however Vehicular assisted visits include the cost of travel to and from the train-bus station or airport. If you are driving here there is public parking for a small fee.
